The Weight of Small Things: Why Micro-Traumas Matter More Than We Think
Updated: Aug 24
Oh my, I can’t believe it’s already Friday - the end of another week. And what a week it’s been. It’s been one of those weeks filled with what I can only describe as “micro traumas” - the small, often dismissed moments that quietly take a toll on us. They’re subtle, sometimes barely noticeable at first. But over time, they accumulate, leaving a mark on our emotional well-being.

The Things We’re Told to “Just Move On” From
We live in a world where we are expected to normalise so much. Toxic behaviour, everyday conflict, and moments that disrupt our peace are often brushed aside. Even situations that affect us more deeply than we care to admit are overlooked.
While resilience is often celebrated, and rightly so, we’ve also become too quick to brush things off. We pick ourselves up and keep moving because that’s what this fast-paced world demands of us. There’s always something next: another task, another responsibility, another expectation.
So we move. We carry on. We don’t stop. But at what cost?
The Truth About “Micro Traumas”
Here’s the truth: those “small things” aren’t always small. They stay with us. They live in our bodies and our minds. They shape how we show up, even in ways we don’t immediately recognise.
Left unprocessed, they build up quietly, layer by layer, until we feel overwhelmed… often without fully understanding why. That’s the danger of minimising them.
Why Pausing Is No Longer Optional
In this overstimulated, always-on world, finding balance isn’t a luxury - it’s essential. We need to permit ourselves to pause. To sit with what we’ve experienced. To reflect, rather than rush. To process, rather than suppress. To heal, rather than ignore.
These moments of intentional pause are not signs of weakness. They are acts of self-preservation, awareness, and growth. When we create space for ourselves in this way, something powerful happens: we make room for stronger tomorrows.
Tomorrows where we can show up more fully, more intentionally, and more whole.
Holding Onto Light, Even After a Heavy Week
And while this week has asked a lot of me, I’m stepping into the next one with something truly special on the horizon. A glimmer of light. A moment I’ve been preparing for. A piece of my journey that I’m finally ready to share.
A New Chapter: Breaking Ties
Breaking Ties is more than just a book to me. It’s deeply personal. It’s honest. And it’s rooted in the very themes I’ve spoken about here: healing, growth, and navigating the complexities of relationships and self.
My hope is simple: that it reaches those who need it most. That it offers comfort where there is pain, clarity where there is confusion, and light where there may currently be heaviness.
Embracing the Journey of Healing
Healing is not a linear process. It’s filled with ups and downs, twists and turns. Each step we take is a part of our unique journey. Embracing this journey means acknowledging our feelings, no matter how small they may seem.
It’s important to create a safe space for ourselves. This can be done through journaling, meditation, or simply taking a moment to breathe deeply. These practices allow us to connect with our inner selves, fostering a sense of peace and understanding.
The Power of Community
As we navigate our healing journeys, it’s essential to remember that we are not alone. Connecting with others who share similar experiences can be incredibly empowering. It reminds us that our feelings are valid and that we can support one another through the challenges we face.
Consider reaching out to a friend or joining a support group. Sharing our stories can lighten the load and create a sense of belonging. Together, we can uplift one another and foster a nurturing environment for growth.
An Invitation to Reflect
If this reflection resonated with you, if you’ve felt the weight of the “small things” this week or any other, I invite you to carry this into your days ahead: take the pause. Give yourself the space. Acknowledge what you’ve been holding.
And when you’re ready, step forward again - gently, intentionally, and with care for yourself.
Love & Light,
Lee
